There is a botanical oasis hidden in Hancock County that should be seen by all, the Perennial Plant Peddler!  Located in the countryside of Hancock County, the Perennial Plant Peddler is a small greenhouse operation ran by the Brickner Family.  Their two greenhouses are overflowing with perennials that they grow on the premises, most of the plants in the greenhouses are not purchased from wholesales.  While the greenhouses are worth the trip alone, the real hidden gem surrounds the premises-the gardens!  While daylilies and hostas are the Plant Peddler’s specialty, there are also other beautiful, as well as unique, plants in the gardens.  Enjoy the prickly pear cacti, Fernleaf Peony, Japanese Ligularia, Pink Gas Plant, Spiny Bear’s Breeches, the Hardy Banana Plant, and so much more.  While the beauty of the gardens and sweet aroma are enjoyable alone, reading all the different names of the plants adds plenty of humor as well!  Tours of the gardens can be had on your own or guided, whichever you prefer.  The public are welcome anytime during regular hours, however large groups and bus tours are encouraged to call and make an appointment.  The Plant Peddler’s greenhouses are currently open and the gardens are in bloom mid-May through mid-September, with the daylily season being July and August.  No matter if you need to purchase plants for your own garden, want to just to see the gardens, or want to pick Ann Brickner’s incredibly knowledgeable brain, a trip to the Perennial Plant Peddler is on your “must-do” list this Summer.
