Now that the glow of the holidays are behind us it is time to find things for the kids (and you!) to stay occupied. When the weather is chilly and the lure of loafing on the couch is an attractive option it is hard to think of things to do. Here are some of our ideas to make sure the winter break blues don’t get you down!
Visit the Mazza Museum

With artwork from children’s book illustrations covering wall to wall, an afternoon at the Mazza Museum is a magical day. The Mazza Museum is opening for just one day during Winter break so don’t miss your chance for a fun afternoon taking in the beautiful illustrations, finding your favorite, or discovering a new favorite! Spend an afternoon at the Children’s Museum

Friday, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Saturday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
There is no better place to bring your kids for a few hours of blowing off steam. Children will use their imaginations while learning about science, technology, engineering, arts, and math through activities in the many exhibits in the museum. Kids can dress up like a firefighter while playing on the fire truck, fix up some animals at the veterinarian’s office, take calls at the bank, and even learn about transportation and travel at the Visit Findlay exhibit! Go Ice Skating at The Cube

What says Winter more than Ice Skating? Head over to The Cube for special Winter Break hours and go ice skating indoors! Admission is only $5 and skate rental is $3. Plus, there is an opportunity to learn to skate over Winter Break. And don’t miss the New Year’s Eve bash, complete with a balloon drop at midnight.
Catch a Movie at Shannon Theater

An afternoon at the movies is always a treat, but make it a community theater with affordable pricing and it is fun for everyone! With admission only $4 and concessions just a reasonably priced (with Shirley’s popcorn too!) catching a movie at Bluffton’s Shannon Theater is always a great time.
Shop Until You Drop
Have some money burning a hole in your pocket, or were you the lucky recipient of some Downtown Gift Certificates? Don’t waste any time in spending that money – get shopping! Trends! on Main will be having an after-Christmas special with many clothing items 50% off including bridal dresses and mothers dresses. Other of your favorite spots will be opening their doors, just check their hours before you go! Some are adjusting post-holidays.
Get your Art On with AMA

There are some great opportunities for art classes over Winter Break! Tuesday, Art Squad, a social art class for young adults, will take place, followed by the final Winter Craft session on Wednesday. During this session students will make a wooden door sign for $15. Friday is Drop and Date, where children will create holiday themed art projects while their adults get to enjoy Downtown, and the final step-by-step painting class of 2017 on Saturday morning!
Yoga in the Parks
Oakwoods Nature Preserve
Thursday, 10 – 11 a.m.
Join the Hancock Park District as they practice yoga through music, games, and creative imagination to imitate animals and nature in winter, learning poses to stretch, build strength and balance, and practice how to cooperate, focus, gain confidence, and relax. Pre-registration is required and children must be ages 5 – 9.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve Weekend!
There are plenty of great opportunities for children and families to enjoy New Year’s Eve, as well as adults too. Downtown Findlay is stretching New Year’s Eve into a weekend event – see what great specials and live music is taking place during the last weekend of 2017! If you or your child is a train enthusiast then this is your last chance to check out to ride NWORRP’s North Pole Express! The last rides of the year will take place on Friday and Saturday from 5 – 9 p.m. For the younger crowd the Children’s Museum of Findlay is hosting a New Year’s Eve Eve Family Bash. Admission is $10 for members and $15 for non-members and admission includes refreshments, a kid friendly drink toast, and party favors will be provided. There will also be a balloon drop, crafts, scavenger hunt, and a mock countdown do “midnight”!
