At the beginning of my sophomore year, my teacher’s wife formed a bible study with a group of girls from my class. The group would meet and discuss a new topic once a week. Our group has spent many Saturday mornings meeting at We Serve. Coffee in Downtown Findlay and recently Jack, the current owner, offered to open up the coffee shop on a couple of weeknights just for us as we began to expand our group to girls from any grade.
In return, he asked that we complete an occasional service project at We Serve. This was an absolute no-brainer for us! We Serve has provided so much to so many in our community and around the world, and this was a perfect opportunity for us to give back. Over this past Thanksgiving break, a handful of members of the bible study and I spent a few hours volunteering at We Serve. Coffee for the first time.
We spent the evening rolling and dipping buckeyes, baking and bagging dog treats, and scooping cake pops. While we made the treats, Jack took the time to explain We Serve. Coffee’s mission to a few of us. All of the shop’s profits are donated to local, as well as global charities. How cool is that?! Local organizations including The Arts Partnership, Mission Possible, and City Mission have benefited from the coffee shop’s sales over the years; Cancer Patient Services and COTA– Topher’s Team are the two charities that will be receiving donations for the rest of 2017. He also informed us that the goodies we made would most likely last throughout the entire holiday season! So, the next time you need a cup of joe and you are feeling charitable, stop into We Serve. Coffee and make a difference!
