Earth Week Litter Clean-Up Challenge • April 22 – 30
The Blanchard River Watershed Partnership (BRWP) and the City of Findlay are working together to clean up litter in our community! Litter can sadly be found in many places throughout Northwest Ohio. It collects along roadsides, storm drains, parking lots, and even in our own yards. That litter makes its way into the Blanchard River, and is eventually carried right into Lake Erie. Plastic is one of the main types of litter that is frequently encountered in our waterways. Each year, 22 million pounds of plastic enter our Great Lakes. Lake Erie alone contains over 760,000 pounds of plastic!

Help us keep litter out of our freshwater sources by picking up litter in your own community. From April 22 – 30, 2023, you can join the Earth Week Litter Challenge and pick up litter throughout Hancock County. Use the Litterati App to track the litter you pick up, and help us reach our litter goal! Join the Earth Week Litter Challenge in Litterati by using the code “Earth419”. Participants will be entered into a drawing to win gift cards to downtown Findlay! Winners will be announced on the BRWP Facebook page on May 1, 2023. To learn how to download and use the Litterati app, please visit BRWP’s website, BlanchardRiver.org.

Cory St. If you would like to check out a litter clean-up kit during Earth Week, please visit the library reference desk.

Earth Day Art Installation • April 22 – 30

One way to tackle our litter problem is by finding another use for items that are thrown away or recycled. See how recyclables have been repurposed and re-imagined into beautiful and creative works of art! Artwork created by Kan Du Studio will be displayed throughout art week in the Atrium of the Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, as well as in the Hancock Hotel.

Artwork created by the young philanthropists of the Kindness Klub will be displayed in the Hancock Hotel throughout Earth Week as well.”
