The Wildcard series offers audiences the chance to experience artists in different genres and cultures in various spaces around MCPA!  This month’s Wildcard performance is Alla Boara.

Folk-jazz sextet Alla Boara celebrates the deep history of human music-making by cultivating fresh sounds from the ancient roots of regional Italian folk songs. Vocalist Amanda Powell’s captivating delivery is propelled by drummer Anthony Taddeo’s dynamic compositions. The songs, near extinct in the wild, are presented here with a modern-jazz sensibility performed by guitarist Dan Bruce, trumpeter Tommy Lehman, bassist Ian Kinnaman, and accordionist/keyboardist Clay Colley.  From the specific dialects, stories, and songs of Italy’s pre-industrial past spring Alla Boara’s universally touching performances which inspire listeners of any heritage to treasure their ancestral roots and to revel in our shared humanity – as surprising, playful, mournful, and tender as the songs themselves.
