National Moth Week: Family Moth Hike

July 28 @ 9:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Free

Event Navigation

Join Hancock Park District to learn about the beauty and importance of moths. Learn what a moth is, how they are different from butterflies, their life cycle, and why they are important to have around. Then hike the trails to look for moths and other nocturnal insects that were attracted to sugar baits on trees. After the hike, you will check a light trap to see what was attracted to our black lights. Throughout the night you will learn about the moths we see and help us document them as we photograph them for the National Moth Week citizen science project. Children who attend will receive some moth coloring pages.

Meet at Shelter 3.  This free program is open to families with children ages 6 and up, registration is not required.
