Nature Exploration Time: Are you a Snail?
July 19 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pmFree
You are invited to join Hancock Park District to take a look at snails and shells. Snails can be found on the land as well as in the water, have hard shells and leave a slimy trail for you to follow. There are many other creatures that have shells as well. Did you know that you can tell the age of a snail by the number of whirls on its shell? There will be some snails to look at under the picture scope so that you can get a close-up look at their eyes, which are on top of their two eye stalks. See the shell collection that has been put together over many years. You can even listen to the ocean waves in the biggest shell. Kids will also have a learning game of matching the sea shell to the ID cards.
Meet at the Discovery Center at the Oakwoods Nature Preserve by 10am. This event is recommended for children ages 11 – 13. The event is free but you must register online by 4pm on Monday, July 18th by visiting the link found here. The event maximum capacity is 24 people.
