Nocturnal Insect Hike
September 13 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeEvent Navigation
Come along as Hancock Park District searches for insects that are active at night. First, we will talk about what it means to be nocturnal and why some insects are only active at night. We will then hike out to the meadow to listen to the calls of katydids and crickets. Next, we will move into the forest to search for moths, caterpillars, and other creepy, crawling insects using sugar baits and a UV flashlight. We will finish our hike at a light trap to see what kinds of insects are attracted to the light.
Meet at the Gatehouse. All ages are welcome to this free event, registration is not required.
