Pokeberry Ink Making
September 19 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
FreePokeberry is a tall plant with purple berries. It was used to create ink in the 1800s. The process of making your own ink begins by learning about the pokeberry, identifying it, and collecting berries while hiking on the trails. Afterward, we will bring our harvest back to the McKinnis House lawn and create our own pokeberry ink. After the ink is made, we will discuss quill writing and practice using a feather quill to write and draw with our fresh ink. Making ink can be a messy process. Please wear clothing that can get stained.
Meet at the McKinnis House. This free program is open to children ages 10-12. Register online at www.hancockparks.com by 4 PM on Wednesday, September 18.
