Project Scale Watch

July 9 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 9:00 am, repeating until July 13, 2019

Free

Are you a fan of reptiles? Do you have an interest in conservation? Project Scale Watch is an in-depth summer program in which you learn what it takes to be a field herpetologist (a person who studies reptiles and amphibians). You’ll explore our local parks to find some scalely friends, learn about their place in the local ecology, and get some first-hand experience working like a real conservationist. You’ll collect data of live specimens, including photographs, where the animals were found, what time of day, and weather conditions. Some herps may be handled to get better observations and to help participants learn how to identify local species of herps. After learning, exploring, and collecting data, participants will be expected to create a presentation, which will be given on Saturday. This will be done through a presentation board. So, if you have a die-hard admiration for frogs, snakes, turtles, and salamanders, then plan your summer adventure with us and join Project Scale Watch. Snacks will be provided, but please bring a sack lunch and a reusable water bottle. Supplies needed: notebook, pencil, and a backpack for carrying belongings. Participants must wear rubber boots or muck boots and long pants and are encouraged to bring sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and an extra set of clothes.
