Our Blog

You may have heard, there is a royal wedding this week.  And if you know me personally, then you definitely know because I’ve been talking incessantly about it since Prince Harry first acknowledged his and Meghan Markle’s relationship in 2016.  I’ve barraged my husband with random royal facts, I’ve bullied my sister and mother to wake up at 5 a.m. on a Saturday to watch with me, and I’ve made sure to pop in to my uninterested co-workers’ offices and give random updates, as necessary (which is often).  I know that as much as I’m looking forward to May 19, the people around me are looking forward to May 20 so I stop talking about it (I probably won’t stop, but don’t tell them!)

As I may have let on, I have royal fever and I can’t wait to celebrate the royal wedding.  Like all celebrations, preparation is necessary and I’ve compiled a few local ways to celebrate in style:

Have you bought your Harry and Meghan wedding souvenirs yet? No? Yeah…me neither. This definitely isn’t a picture of my commemorative tea towel.

Sweet Treats

Like any wedding, desserts and cake are of the upmost importance.  Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are having a lemon elderflower cake with buttercream and decorated with fresh flowers, which sounds a little rich for a 5 a.m. viewing party so plan ahead and get your own treats to snack on while you watch the wedding.  If you want a cake of your own, you can’t go wrong with Jen’s Buggy Whip Cake Studio, which always has cupcakes available for cash and carry.

If you want to really feel posh while watching the royal wedding, pick up some scones!  The Baker’s Cafe has a plethora of sweet treats to choose from, including scones and cupcakes.  We Serve. Coffee also has delicious scones, and their charitable mission, with 100% of profits going towards both local and global needs, is in the same vein as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle suggesting donations in lieu of gifts for their wedding.

Get your scones at We Serve. Coffee or Baker’s Cafe! (I won’t tell if you pair it with coffee instead of tea!)

Cheers!

You will need some refreshments to pair with your treats and we have several recommendations.  If you’re going to keep with the British theme make sure to pick up some tea!  The Cracked Pot Tea Shop has plenty of suggestions, and RooBarb Studios even has a blend in stock called The Wedding Tea.  Or, prepare for the wedding ahead of time by attending a formal tea at The Swan House Tea Room in Downtown Findlay or Bystillwaters Bistro in Bluffton.  If you want to go a more celebratory route, pick up some champagne at The Wine Merchant or Gathering Wine.

Gifts

An essential part of any wedding is the gifts – and treat yourself like a Princess and get something for yourself!  Like I mentioned above, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have requested donations to charities, seven specifically, instead of gifts, and you can honor that request locally as well with some of these fun suggestions on ways to be charitable in Findlay.  Part of my obsession with the British Royal Family comes from looking at their outfits, and you can be just as fashionable as Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle while shopping for fashions locally.  Pick up a special outfit to watch the wedding in, or just because at any of the local clothing boutiques like Trends! on Main, Shimmery Belle Boutique, The Dressing Room Boutique, The Urban Market, or Papillon Boutique.  If you have a little one in the family make sure they are eating like a Prince or Princess with an adorable gift set from RooBarb Studios!  Anyone of any age should be treated like a prince and princess!
