ArtWalk is a favorite among most of Findlay and Hancock County’s residents. So when it became clear that ArtWalk couldn’t occur in its traditional form the Virtual ArtWalk was born!
This ArtWalk, like so many other things right now, isn’t going to look like normal. For one – no pants required, pajamas suggested. But, we’re trying to keep all of your favorite ArtWalk activities – just taking place online.
So, how will this work? We’ve detailed it out below:
1. Follow the Facebook Event
2. Plan out your evening
Just like a regular ArtWalk there are going to be a lot of activities going on – so make sure you check out the schedule! See when your favorite artist’s work will be debuted, what musicians are playing, what shops you’ll be virtually visiting, and what demonstrations will be taking place.
3. Order Takeout
Plan ahead and order your dinner and drinks before ArtWalk gets going! This way you don’t have to miss a thing. See what restaurants are open for takeout during ArtWalk. For added artsy fun, Findlay Brewing Company is creating a takeout masterpiece! Add your mark with sanitized paintbrushes as you pick up your dinner. Bourbon Affair will be sharing how to make one of their cocktails or home…or take the easy way out and just order one to enjoy at home.
4. Get Cozy
Settle in at home and get ready for a night of ArtWalk! Pull up the Facebook Event page and get ready. You can follow along with ArtWalk on your phone, computer, or even your TV. With a smart phone and smart TV you can cast your phone screen to your television, creating a larger ArtWalk viewing experience.
5. Start Clicking!
We’ve asked for art from the community, and the community delivered! We can’t wait to show off the art submitted by artists of all ages! These albums will go live right at 5 p.m. – make sure to look for the work of those you know! Throughout the evening you will see featured artists that would typically be spread out throughout Downtown. But now they’re all in one spot for you to enjoy their art. Showing his artwork off in a unique way is author/illustrator (and Findlay Native) T.L. McBeth, who will be reading one of the books he illustrated at 7:50 p.m.
We can’t wait to take in a show at MCPA or tap our toes to live music at Downtown restaurants, but in the meantime we will bring the shows to you. Musicians Ryan Parker at 5:15, Logan Ross at 6:15, and Jason Wagner at 8:15 will be providing the entertainment you need. The Children’s Museum of Findlay will be hosting a family singalong at 7 p.m., while 10 year old magician, Excellent Elizabeth, will be doing her Rubik’s cube routine at 5:45. She will also be showing how to do a card trick, so bring a deck of cards!
Tours and Demonstrations
Several artists will be showing you inside their home studios, and many will also be letting you take a peek at their process. TimberFork Studio will be showing off his pottery prowess at 6:45, Amber Kear of Hysteria Co. shows how her pet portraits come to life at 7:15, and artists Alanna Aurand and Jennifer Sowders will be online the entire ArtWalk with studio tours, demonstrations, and live sales of their art. New to ArtWalk this year is Dustin Druckman who will show you what light painting is, and how it is created. Michaela Monterosso is sharing a DIY Jewelry tutorial at 8:30 p.m., so you can even create your own art at home.
Take a unique tour of the Hancock Historical Museum‘s Collection Room at 6 p.m. and see the beautiful exhibit currently at the Fisher/Wall Art Gallery in MCPA at 6:30. Missing the Jones Building? Learn about its history and wander down its halls at 5:35, learn more about the art behind landscape design at 8:45 with Lowenoak Landscape Development.
6. Treat Yourself (and Others)
A big part of ArtWalk is checking out what is new in your favorite stores – you can still do that! See what the Downtown shops have available to purchase online…this would be a good time to purchase a Mother’s Day gift! If you’re looking for a way to acquire new art, support local artists, and give to good causes Trends! on Main is holding an Art Auction at 7:30 p.m. on their facebook page. Proceeds will be split between the artist and 2 charities, Clothe-a-Child and Kiwanis Club of Findlay. The artwork has been donated by both professional and amateur artists.
7. Enjoy it all again
By 9 p.m. our virtual ArtWalk will have come to an end, but unlike a typical ArtWalk the fun doesn’t have to stop! Nearly every aspect of the virtual ArtWalk will still continue to be available online. So, if you happen to miss something you were looking forward to, odds are that you can still get the virtual experience the next day, next week, and even next month. Everything will be linked at VisitFindlay.com/ArtWalk for your enjoyment.
We are really looking forward to our virtual ArtWalk! If you have any questions please email firstname.lastname@example.org – we will (virtually) see you on Friday!
