Salamander Hike

February 18 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

Join Hancock Park District to look for salamanders on the move, and under leaves and logs. The Lady Bug Loop Trail is a perfect place to look for the red-backed or Jefferson salamander.

There are 24 species of salamanders in Ohio. The small vernal pool at Blue Rock Nature Preserve is salamander habitat. They like wet, cool places to hide and a shallow pool to lay their eggs in during the spring. The best time of year to see salamanders in our area is January through May.

Meet at the Edgar Avenue parking lot.  This free program is open to children ages 11-14.  Registration is not required.
