Happy first day of Winter! This Winter don’t stay locked up indoors, get out and enjoy the great outdoors with these winter activities and events!
Raccoon Run Winter Sports Center
Once snow has accumulated to 3-4 inches on the ground the Raccoon Run Winter Sports Center at Riverside Park opens! The sports center offers snowshoes and cross country skis to rent on the weekends. If you are a beginner, make sure to take advantage of the beginner cross-country ski workshops the parks offer! Snow shoeing lessons are available upon request. If you are an old pro at winter sports, go on a night ski! The path will be partially lit with luminaries, giving you a whole new view of our parks.
Sledding
Sledding is must for children of all ages…and adults too! There are so many spots throughout Hancock County to sled. You have to check out the Findlay-Riverbend Reservoir, Rawson Park and Island Park. Ask around and find out what other spots of most people and there are plenty of opportunities for that fun in Hancock County as well! Make it a true tradition by grabbing a meatloaf sandwich at The Fern or a dark hot chocolate at We Serve. Coffee afterward!
Disc Golf
Disc golf probably isn’t something that immediately comes to mind when you think of winter activities. But in Hancock County there is no better time to play! The disc golf field at Riverbend Recreation Area is open year round and at the end of January the Disc Golf Community Association will be hosting a Ice Bowl Benefit. This event is for new or seasoned players and features 20 holes of disc golf.
Ice Skating at The Cube
Ice skating at The Cube is the best of both worlds. You get to enjoy a winter sport without the chilly temperatures! The Cube offers public skates on the weekends as well as Mom, Dad, and Me (10 – 11 a.m.), Adult Only (11 a.m. – Noon) and Open Hockey (Noon – 1:30 p.m.) Monday – Friday. Or, if you’re more of a spectator, catch a Findlay High School Hockey game, a FAHA Hockey game or Ice Show!
Signature Events
Don’t hibernate this winter, put the sweatpants away and get out there! There is plenty of events in Hancock County this winter, including the Winter Blues Festival, Red Cross Oscar Bash, Dueling Pianos and much, much more. Indoor Events
Okay, fine. Not everyone is an outdoors person, especially in the Winter time. If cold, snow, and fresh air aren’t for you check out some of the great winter activities that take place indoors! There are great museums to explore, golf and soccer to be played, art to be made and so much more, all while staying warm!
